Connect your LinkedIn account

Updated

Navigent's campaigns send invitations and messages from your own LinkedIn account, and you connect it once. Searching, reviewing and the shortlist work without it, so you can start searching before you've connected anything.

Connect the account

  1. Click Connect LinkedIn in Get started, or open Settings > Connected accounts.
  2. A login from Unipile opens. Unipile is the service Navigent uses to send and receive messages.
  3. Sign in to LinkedIn as you normally would.
  4. You're taken back to Navigent, and the account shows as connected under Connected accounts.

Navigent never sees your password and never stores it or your session. Unipile holds the connection.

Free or paid account

Navigent reads the account type: free, Premium, Sales Navigator or Recruiter.

A free account can run the whole sequence as long as invitations go without a note, which is the default. LinkedIn only lets a free account add a note to three invitations a month, so if you want to write notes on your invitations, we recommend a paid account. See Campaigns.

One account per user

Everyone connects their own LinkedIn account and their own mailbox. The account belongs to you and your organization, and it can send in every workspace you have access to. A campaign sends from the same account for its whole life.

How Navigent protects the account

  • Low limits to begin with. 15 invitations a week, rising only when enough people accept, and never above 80. Messages to connections start at 30 a day and reach at most 60.
  • Working hours only. Sends go out on weekdays between 8:00 and 16:00 in the account's time zone, 4 to 20 minutes apart.
  • Regular checks. The account is checked every hour and after any send that fails. Its status shows under Connected accounts and on the campaign.

When the account needs reconnecting

If LinkedIn ends the session, the account is marked as needing to be reconnected. It stops sending straight away, and the candidates in your campaigns wait rather than fail. You'll get an e-mail saying so, and the inbox lists it under Needs action.

  1. Open Settings > Connected accounts.
  2. Reconnect the account through the same login.
  3. Your campaigns carry on where they stopped.

When LinkedIn restricts the account

If LinkedIn restricts your account, Navigent pauses every campaign sending from it, and both you and your organization's owner are e-mailed. LinkedIn usually asks for an identity check or a pause. Once the account is in order, reconnect it under Connected accounts and restart the campaigns yourself. They never restart on their own.

Disconnect

You can disconnect the account under Connected accounts. Campaigns sending from it stop, and the message history stays. When someone is removed from the organization, their accounts are disconnected automatically.

Good to know

  • Automating LinkedIn carries a risk to your own account. That's why Navigent's limits are low, but as the terms say, you're responsible for the account and for what it sends.
  • The Chrome extension doesn't need LinkedIn to be connected. It reads the profile you have open.
